Promises

“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him”
Hebrews 11:6

We have received and given promises that were broken. We make promises, and because of circumstances, we go back on our word. Some people may figure that the same applies to God.

The promises of God stand on five pillars.

The first pillar is God’s justice. We are told in I Peter 1:17 that God judges impartially. “Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert what is right?”(Job 3:8) The answer gleaned from Job 3:4-8 is God does not pervert justice.

The second pillar is God’s goodness. God’s goodness is seen in His deliverance of the children of Israel out of Egypt and the giving of the Promised Land to them. “How great is Your goodness, which You have stored up for those who fear You” (Psalm 31:19a).

The third pillar is God’s truth. “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent; has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19). “And the truth of the Lord is everlasting” (Psalm 117:2b).

The fourth pillar is God’s power. Abraham understood that when God promised that he and Sarah would have a son, He had the power to make it happen (Romans 4:16-21).

The fifth pillar is God’s oath. The writer of Hebrews speaks of God’s promise to multiply Abraham’s seed (Hebrews 6:13-18). God’s promises are absolutely trustworthy. “So that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie” (Hebrews 6:18a).

God has never broken a promise, and He never will.
It is impossible for God to lie.

Almighty Father, we trust fully in Your promises. We are grateful, Father, for all that we have and will have. In the name of Jesus. Amen.          ~ Ed
