Loving Hearts

““Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, these may forget, yet will not I forget thee” (Isaiah 49: 15).

Sir Edwin Arnold (1832-1904) is credited with writing “God can’t be always everywhere, and so He invented mothers.” In a sense, this is true. Godly, loving mothers are truly a gift from God. Perhaps God gives us mothers a special portion of love. Like Mary, the mother of Jesus, we may remember the things our children do and say and “keep them in our hearts” (Luke 2:51). We mothers teach our children about God by our loving examples and by our words. We sacrifice to give them the best and to make them successful in school and in life.

Our children graduate from high school or college, find a job, and are anxious to be out from under their mothers’ wings. We let them fly away, but we keep the door open. We are always ready to give advice and support. As Mary had faith in Jesus and stood near the cross, we have faith in our children and stand by them.

We mothers know that we can’t be always everywhere, but God is everywhere. We trust in God, and we pray that He will be with our children. We pray that God will keep them physically safe and give them success. More importantly, we ask God to increase their faith in Him and to keep them safe spiritually. He is our loving Father, and like a mother, He will watch over us and keep us all.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for our mothers and the love they have given us. We praise You for Your loving care. We know your tender love watches over us all through life’s journey.  In Jesus’ name, amen.          ~ Donna
